Target Information
Huntingtin disease, a neurodegenerative disorder, is caused by the expansion of a polymorphic glutamine tract in huntingtin. Huntingtin Interacting Protein 1 (HIP-1) is a proapoptotic, cargo-specific adaptor protein involved in the pathogenesis of Huntingtin disease. HIP-1R may play a role in recruiting clathrin coats to lipid membranes and contribute to tumorigenesis by promoting survival of precancerous and cancerous cells. HIP-1 expression is associated with prostate and colon cancer metastasis, serving as a potential prognostic marker.
