Target Information
Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a common lethal genetic disorder caused by mutations in the CFTR gene, which encodes a cAMP-regulated chloride channel. Approximately 70% of CF cases involve the deletion of phenylalanine at position 508 (ΔF508), leading to defective chloride transport. The persistence of this mutation may be linked to resistance against Salmonella typhi, as ΔF508 heterozygote and homozygote mice show significantly reduced bacterial uptake in intestinal tissues.
