Target Information
The protein encoded by the KRT20 gene is a member of the keratin family, which forms intermediate filaments maintaining epithelial cell integrity. Type I cytokeratins are acidic proteins paired with type II keratins. Cytokeratin 20 is a major structural protein of mature enterocytes and goblet cells, specifically expressed in gastric and intestinal mucosa. Type I cytokeratin genes are clustered on chromosome 17q12–q21.
