Target Information
Catalase is a homotetrameric heme-containing enzyme located in the peroxisome matrix. It catalyzes the conversion of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen.
Human catalase includes the C-terminal sequence (-KANL) for peroxisome targeting, and the monomer has a molecular weight of approximately 61.3 kDa.
Catalase plays key roles in inflammation, mutagenesis, apoptosis prevention, and tumor stimulation.
Deficiency of catalase results in acatalasemia (Takahara’s disease).
