Target Information

WW domain-containing proteins are found in all eukaryotes and play an important role in regulating various cellular functions such as protein degradation, transcription, and RNA splicing.
This gene encodes a protein with two WW domains and a short-chain dehydrogenase/reductase domain (SRD).
Highest expression is detected in hormonally regulated tissues (testis, ovary, prostate), suggesting a role in steroid metabolism.
The human protein shares >90% identity with the mouse homolog, an essential mediator of TNF-α-induced apoptosis, implying a similar role in apoptosis and tumor suppression.
Alternative splicing generates multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
