Target Information
Prohibitin is an evolutionarily conserved gene expressed ubiquitously. It functions as a negative regulator of cell proliferation and may act as a tumor suppressor. Mutations in the PHB gene have been linked to sporadic breast cancer. Prohibitin is expressed as two transcripts with varying lengths of the 3′ untranslated region, with the longer transcript present at higher levels in proliferating tissues and cells, suggesting a regulatory role as a trans-acting RNA.
