Target Information
The Golgi apparatus participates in glycosylation and transport of proteins and lipids in the secretory pathway. It consists of stacked cisternae and interacts with microtubules for reorganization during mitosis.
GOLGA5 encodes a coiled-coil membrane protein localized to the Golgi and is involved in vesicle tethering and docking. Translocations involving this gene and the ret proto-oncogene have been identified in tumor tissues, forming chimeric sequences designated RET-II and PTC5.
