MYLPF (myosin light chain, phosphorylatable, fast skeletal muscle)
Also known as fast skeletal myosin light chain 2 or MLC2B, MYLPF is a 169 amino acid protein expressed in fetal and adult skeletal muscle.
It is a calcium-binding protein containing three EF-hand domains and is encoded by a gene located on human chromosome 16p11.2.
Chromosome 16 encodes over 900 genes (~90 million base pairs), representing about 3% of human DNA and is associated with various genetic disorders.
The GAN gene, also on chromosome 16, when mutated, can cause giant axonal neuropathy, a nervous system disorder characterized by progressive malfunction.
