Target Information

PCNA (Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen) is essential for DNA replication and plays a key role in DNA excision and mismatch repair. It interacts with CDK inhibitor p21, endonucleases Fen1 and XPG, and DNA cytosine 5-methyltransferase (MCMT). PCNA serves as a marker for proliferating cells and is often used to assess tumor proliferation status. It is primarily localized in the nucleus and functions as a cofactor for DNA polymerase delta, forming a homotrimer that enhances DNA synthesis during replication. Upon DNA damage, PCNA undergoes ubiquitination and participates in the RAD6-dependent DNA repair pathway. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified, with pseudogenes located on chromosome 4 and the X chromosome.
