Target Information
The MT-ATP6 gene encodes a protein essential for normal mitochondrial function. Mitochondria generate cellular energy through oxidative phosphorylation, producing ATP—the main energy source for cells.
MT-ATP6 forms one subunit of the ATP synthase (Complex V) enzyme, which catalyzes the conversion of ADP to ATP using the proton gradient across the mitochondrial membrane.
