Target Information

This gene belongs to the subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs). The hnRNPs are RNA-binding proteins that complex with heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA). These proteins are associated with pre-mRNAs in the nucleus and influence pre-mRNA processing, mRNA metabolism, and transport.
While all hnRNPs are present in the nucleus, some shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm. The encoded protein has four quasi-RNA recognition motif (RRM) domains that bind RNAs. It binds intronic polypyrimidine tracts required for pre-mRNA splicing and acts via the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway. It may promote U2 snRNP binding to pre-mRNAs.
Localized in the nucleoplasm and perinucleolar structure. Alternative splicing generates different isoforms.
