Target Information
MaxiK channels are large conductance, voltage- and calcium-sensitive potassium channels essential for controlling smooth muscle tone and neuronal excitability. These channels consist of a pore-forming alpha subunit and a modulatory beta subunit. The KCNMB3 gene encodes an auxiliary beta subunit that may partially inactivate or slightly decrease the activation time of MaxiK alpha subunit currents. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants, and a related pseudogene is located on chromosome 22.
