Target Information

This gene encodes a member of the cyclin family. Cyclins regulate cell cycle transitions by binding and activating cyclin-dependent protein kinases.
Cyclin F also belongs to the F-box protein family, characterized by a ~40 amino acid F-box motif.
F-box proteins are subunits of the SCF (SKP1–cullin–F-box) ubiquitin ligase complex, functioning in phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination.
They are classified into:

• Fbws: Containing WD-40 domains
• Fbls: Containing leucine-rich repeats
• Fbxs: Containing other interaction modules or no recognizable motifs

Cyclin F belongs to the Fbxs class and was one of the first proteins identified with an F-box motif.
