The immunogen is a rat monoclonal antibody raised against human lymphocytes.
Target Information
Beta-2-microglobulin (B2M) is a 12–14 kDa protein that forms part of the MHC class I complex. It is expressed on many cell types including lymphocytes, thymocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, platelets, endothelial cells, and epithelial cells, but absent on erythrocytes.
B2M is also found free in plasma and shares sequence homology with immunoglobulin constant regions, forming a beta-pleated sheet structure.
It is involved in antigen processing, presentation, and TCR signaling, particularly in naive CD8+ cells.
Encoded by the B2M gene on chromosome 15, mutations can cause hypercatabolic hypoproteinemia.
Beta-2-microglobulin levels are used to evaluate renal function and as a prognostic marker for HIV infection.
