Target Information
Adenylate kinases regulate intracellular adenine nucleotide composition by catalyzing reversible phosphate group transfers among adenine nucleotides. Three isozymes (AK1, AK2, AK3) have been identified in vertebrates.
The AK2 isozyme, encoded by this gene, is localized in the mitochondrial intermembrane space and may play a role in apoptosis. Expression is tissue-specific and developmentally regulated. Two transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified.
