TAS2R9 유전자는 G-단백질 결합 수용체(GPCR) 초가족에 속하는 쓴맛 수용체 후보군의 일원입니다. 이 단백질들은 혀와 입천장 상피의 미각 수용 세포에 특이적으로 발현되며, 유전체상에서 클러스터 형태로 존재합니다. 기능적 발현 연구에서 TAS2R9은 쓴맛 자극 물질에 반응하며, 인간과 마우스의 쓴맛 인지에 관여하는 유전자 좌위와 연관되어 있습니다.
이 수용체는 gustducin과 결합하여 PLCB2 및 TRPM5 경로를 통해 신호를 전달하며, 혀 및 입천장 상피의 gustducin-양성 세포에서 발현됩니다.
