Product Specific Information
In direct ELISAs and Western blots, approximately 30% cross-reactivity with recombinant human Integrin beta 2 and recombinant mouse Integrin beta 6 is observed, and less than 5% cross-reactivity with recombinant mouse Integrin beta 1, beta 4, and beta 7 is observed.
Target Information
CD18 (Integrin beta 2 subunit) is a 90 kDa type I transmembrane protein expressed on all leukocytes. It combines with integrin molecules CD11a–d to form heterodimers (LFA-1, Mac-1, CR3, and CD11d/CD18), which mediate cell adhesion and signaling.
Deficiency of CD18 results in leukocyte adhesion deficiency type I (LAD1), while reduced expression can lead to psoriasiform skin disease. CD18 also mediates leukotoxin-induced cytolysis by Mannheimia haemolytica. Two transcript variants encoding CD18 have been identified.
