Target Information
UCH-L5 (ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal hydrolase isozyme L5), also known as UCH37, is a 329 amino acid protein that edits polyubiquitinated protein substrates. Deregulation of UCH-L5 may influence tumor growth by rescuing ubiquinated oncogenic proteins from proteasomal degradation. Through interaction with Smad7, UCH-L5 can upregulate TGFβ-dependent gene expression by deubiquitinating and stabilizing TGFβ RI. Overexpression of UCH-L5 and other deubiquitinating enzymes has been observed in various cancer cell lines, suggesting potential therapeutic interest. Four isoforms exist due to alternative splicing events.
