Target Information
GPRC6A is an Orphan-U GPCR with an unknown ligand. G-protein Coupled Receptors (GPCRs) comprise one of the largest families of signaling molecules, with more than a thousand members predicted to exist. All GPCRs share a structural motif consisting of seven membrane-spanning helices and exist in both active and inactive forms. Various activating ligands induce conformational changes in GPCRs, leading to signaling via G-proteins and downstream effectors. Studies have also revealed mechanisms of negative regulation of GPCRs, which are critical for cellular physiology and pharmacological research. GPCR-targeted drugs such as Zyprexa (Eli Lilly) and Claritin (Schering-Plough) exemplify their therapeutic importance.
