Target Information
RAB family members are small, RAS-related GTP-binding proteins that regulate vesicular transport. Each RAB protein interacts with multiple proteins acting in exocytic and endocytic pathways.
RAB7A regulates vesicle traffic in late endosomes and from late endosomes to lysosomes. It is involved in the cellular vacuolation induced by the VacA cytotoxin of Helicobacter pylori.
Mutations in conserved amino acid residues of this gene have been associated with certain forms of Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) type 2 neuropathies.
