Target Information
MAPK7 (ERK5) serine/threonine kinase is a member of the MAP kinase family involved in cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, transcription regulation, and development. It is activated by MAP2K5 (MEK5) and translocates to the nucleus in response to extracellular signals to regulate gene expression through phosphorylation of transcription factors.
Knockout studies in mice show that MAPK7 is essential for blood vessel and cardiac development. ERK5 is expressed in many adult tissues, including heart, placenta, lung, kidney, and skeletal muscle, but not in liver.
