Target Information
The PKC family of serine/threonine kinases, including PRKCA (PKC alpha), is activated by intracellular signal transduction pathways. In humans, at least 12 PKC isoforms have been identified, differing in structure, tissue distribution, localization, and substrate specificity. Conventional PKC isoforms (alpha, beta I, beta II, gamma) are Ca²⁺- and phospholipid-dependent. PKC family members phosphorylate diverse protein targets and participate in various signaling pathways, acting as receptors for phorbol esters, known tumor promoters. PKC alpha is implicated in processes such as cell adhesion, transformation, cell cycle control, and cardiac contractility regulation.
