The eBio156-4H9 monoclonal antibody reacts with the human CD48 antigen, also known as B cell activation marker 1, SLAM family member 2, Blast-1 (human), and OX-45 (rat).
CD48 is a 45 kDa GPI-linked glycoprotein expressed on most hematopoietic cells. It serves as a low-affinity ligand for CD2 and is part of the SLAM family and Ig superfamily.
Expression of CD48 varies among hematopoietic progenitors and increases upon B cell activation. It is expressed on leukocytes, with little to none on granulocytes and absent on platelets and erythrocytes.

Applications Reported: Suitable for flow cytometric analysis.
Applications Tested: Tested by flow cytometric analysis of human peripheral blood cells. Recommended ≤1 µg per test (100 µL final volume). Optimal titration advised for specific assays.

Target Information

CD48 (Blast-1) belongs to the CD2 subset of the Ig superfamily, including CD2, CD58, CD84, CD150, CD229, and CD244.
It is a GPI-anchored protein broadly expressed on hematopoietic cells, functioning as a high-affinity ligand for 2B4 and a low-affinity ligand for CD2.
2B4-CD48 interaction among NK and NK-T cells regulates cell proliferation.
CD48 expression increases in certain infectious diseases and eosinophil activation.
Strongly expressed on lymphocytes and monocytes, weakly on granulocytes, absent on platelets, fibroblasts, epithelium, and endothelium.
CD48 serves as a marker for GPI anchoring defects (e.g., paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobulinuria) and may be involved in allergic airway disease pathology.
