Target Information
KCNQs are members of the voltage-dependent non-inactivating potassium channel family. Five known KCNQs (KCNQ1–5) are found in the central nervous system, with KCNQ2 and KCNQ3 playing key roles in M-current activation. These two subunits form heteromultimers that significantly increase the M-current. Inhibition of M-current regulates neuronal excitability and synaptic responsiveness. Mutations in these proteins are linked to disorders such as benign familial neonatal convulsions (BFNC), deafness, neuropathic pain, and epilepsy.
