Product Specific Information
- Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
- Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 minutes at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Target Information
E-Cadherin (epithelial cadherin) is a classical cadherin from the calcium-dependent adhesion protein superfamily. It is a cell-cell adhesion glycoprotein composed of five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail.
Mutations in this gene are associated with gastric, breast, colorectal, thyroid, and ovarian cancers. Loss of E-Cadherin function contributes to cancer progression through increased proliferation, invasion, and metastasis.
E-Cadherin mediates bacterial adhesion to mammalian cells, and its cytoplasmic domain is necessary for internalization. The protein plays a key role in maintaining tissue architecture and integrity.
In humans, E-Cadherin is encoded by the CDH1 gene located on chromosome 16. Reduction or loss of E-Cadherin expression in carcinomas correlates with increased tumor invasiveness and metastatic potential.
