Target Information
ZO-3 is a member of the membrane-associated guanylate kinase (MAGUK) family and is considered a tight junction-associated protein. Tight junctions form intercellular boundaries between epithelial and endothelial cells. ZO-3 has both structural and signaling roles and contains PDZ, SH3, and GuK domains. ZO-1 forms complexes with either ZO-2 or ZO-3, and these proteins can associate with claudin, occludin, and F-actin at tight junction strands, linking the actin cytoskeleton to the junction. ZO-1 expression is often reduced in breast cancer lines, while ZO-2 and ZO-3 are ubiquitously expressed within epithelial tight junctions.
