Target Information
PDEF (prostate-derived Ets factor) is a 37.5-kDa protein that functions as an androgen-independent transcriptional activator for the PSA (prostate specific antigen) promoter. It directly interacts with the DNA-binding domain of the androgen receptor and enhances androgen-mediated activation of the PSA promoter.
PDEF transcript levels are significantly elevated in the peripheral blood of some breast cancer patients compared to normal individuals. It is frequently overexpressed in human breast and ovarian tumors. In ovarian tumors, PDEF expression appears to reduce malignant potential, suggesting potential therapeutic applications for drugs that induce PDEF expression in epithelial ovarian tumors.
