Target Information
NMDAR1 encodes a protein that is a critical subunit of N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors, members of the glutamate receptor channel superfamily. These receptors form ligand-gated ion channels and play a key role in synaptic plasticity, which underlies memory and learning. Expression of different isoforms is regulated by cell-specific factors, potentially contributing to functional diversity. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described.
