Target Information
BMP15 (also known as GDF9B) is a member of the bone morphogenetic protein family within the transforming growth factor-beta superfamily, involved in embryonic development and adult tissue homeostasis. BMP15 is expressed exclusively in the oocyte and functions as an oocyte-specific growth/differentiation factor that may play a role in oocyte maturation and follicular development. Mutations in BMP15 cause ovarian dysgenesis type 2. BMP15 can serve as an oogenesis marker for tracking differentiation of human amniotic fluid stem cells into oocyte-like cells.
