Target Information

Milk lipid globules from humans, cows, and rats contain a protein known as adipocyte differentiation-related protein (ADFP). This protein is associated with the globule surface membrane material and is a major component of the detergent-insoluble complex containing butyrophilin and xanthine oxidase.

ADFP (Adipophilin) is expressed in various cultured cell lines, including fibroblasts, endothelial, and epithelial cells. In tissues, expression is restricted to specialized cells such as lactating mammary epithelial cells, adrenal cortex cells, Sertoli and Leydig cells, and steatotic hepatocytes in alcoholic liver cirrhosis.

ADFP serves as a potential marker for identifying differentiated cells containing lipid droplets and for studying diseases related to fat-accumulating cells.
