Target Information
SNAP29 encodes a protein that is a member of the SNAP25 gene family, involved in multiple membrane trafficking steps. Other family members, SNAP23 and SNAP25, mediate synaptic vesicle membrane docking and fusion to the plasma membrane. The SNAP29 protein binds tightly to multiple syntaxins and is localized to intracellular membrane structures rather than to the plasma membrane. While mostly membrane-bound, a significant fraction exists freely in the cytoplasm. Multiple polyadenylation sites have been noted for this gene.
