Target Information
MAP3K9 (MLK1) is a serine/threonine protein kinase involved in the MAP kinase pathway. It plays an essential role in cellular response cascades triggered by environmental changes. Once activated, MAP3K9 acts as an upstream activator of the MKK/JNK signal transduction cascade through phosphorylation of MAP2K4/MKK4 and MAP2K7/MKK7, which subsequently activate JNKs. The MKK/JNK signaling pathway regulates stress response via activator protein-1 (JUN) and GATA4 transcription factors. MAP3K9 also participates in mitochondrial death signaling, including cytochrome c release, leading to apoptosis.
