PCSK5는 subtilisin-like proprotein convertase 계열에 속하는 단백질로, 비활성 전구체 단백질을 생물학적으로 활성화된 형태로 전환시키는 역할을 합니다.
이 단백질은 여러 integrin α-소단위체의 번역 후 내단백질 절단을 매개하며, prorenin, pro-membrane type-1 matrix metalloproteinase, HIV-1 glycoprotein gp160 등을 처리하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
