Target Information
Eukaryotic RNA polymerase II mediates the synthesis of mature and functional messenger RNA. This multistep process, called the transcription cycle, includes five stages: preinitiation, promoter clearance, elongation, and termination.
Elongation is a critical stage for the regulation of gene expression. ELOF1 (Transcription elongation factor 1 homolog) is an 83 amino acid nuclear protein involved in maintaining proper chromatin structure in actively transcribed regions.
The ELOF1 gene maps to human chromosome 19, which contains over 63 million bases and approximately 1,400 genes, known for its high gene density. It houses multiple immunoglobulin (Ig) superfamily members, including killer cell and leukocyte Ig-like receptors, ICAMs, CEACAM and PSG family, and Fc receptors (FcRs).
