Target Information
Spectrins are filamentous cytoskeletal proteins acting as scaffolds that stabilize the plasma membrane and organize intracellular organelles. This gene encodes an alpha spectrin expressed in nonerythrocytic cells and is involved in DNA repair and cell cycle regulation. Mutations cause early infantile epileptic encephalopathy-5. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
