Target Information
Carnitine (β-hydroxy-γ-trimethylaminobutyrate)는 긴 사슬 지방산의 β-산화에 관여하는 고극성 화합물입니다. Organic cation/carnitine transporters (OCTN)는 양이온성 화합물 및 carnitine의 재흡수를 돕습니다.
OCTN 단백질은 상피세포의 세포막에 위치하며, OCTN1은 신장, 기관, 골수, 태아 간에서, OCTN2는 신장, 골격근, 태반, 심장에서, OCTN3은 고환에서 주로 발현됩니다.
OCTN2 유전자의 돌연변이는 systemic carnitine deficiency (SCD)를 유발하며, 이는 심근병증, 근육병증, 무기력, 저혈당, 고암모니아혈증을 특징으로 하는 상염색체 열성 질환입니다.
