This antibody detects endogenous levels of total Cytochrome c Oxidase 8C.
Target Information
The cytochrome c oxidase (COX) family functions as the final electron donor in the respiratory chain, driving a proton gradient across the inner mitochondrial membrane and producing water and ATP.
The mammalian COX apoenzyme is a dimer with 13 subunits per monomer, comprising both mitochondrial and nuclear components.
The COX8 (cytochrome c oxidase subunit VIII) subunits are nuclear-encoded and include isoforms COX8a (liver and heart), COX8b (heart-specific), and COX8c (expression pattern not fully elucidated).
All three isoforms are part of the COX complex and play essential roles in electron transport. This protein is one of the nuclear-coded polypeptide chains of cytochrome c oxidase, the terminal oxidase in mitochondrial electron transport.
