Target Information
The XRCC3 gene encodes a member of the RecA/Rad51-related protein family involved in homologous recombination to maintain chromosome stability and repair DNA damage.
This gene complements the repair-deficient Chinese hamster irs1SF mutant, which shows hypersensitivity to DNA-damaging agents and chromosomal instability.
A rare microsatellite polymorphism in XRCC3 is associated with cancer susceptibility in patients with varying radiosensitivity.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
