Target Information
SPHK2, along with SPHK1, catalyzes the phosphorylation of sphingosine to produce sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P), a key signaling molecule acting through G-protein coupled receptors. S1P regulates diverse cellular processes such as motility, survival, apoptosis, migration, and cell-cell interaction. SPHK2 functions in both intra- and extracellular signaling and plays roles in cell differentiation, calcium mobilization, and apoptosis. Dysregulation of SPHKs has been linked to cancer and other pathophysiological conditions.
