Target Information
Zinc, an essential element required for cell proliferation and differentiation, plays a role in a wide range of cellular functions, including serving as a cofactor for many enzymes and transcription factors, and acting as a neuroregulator.
The zinc transporter (ZnT) family regulates intracellular zinc supply and is characterized by six membrane-spanning domains, a histidine-rich intracellular loop, and a C-terminal tail. ZnT-1, a ubiquitous protein of approximately 60 kDa, localizes to the plasma membrane to facilitate zinc export from cells.
