Background
This gene encodes a 54-kDa nuclear protein containing an arginine/serine-rich region similar to those found in pre-mRNA splicing factors. Although its precise function is not fully understood, structural and immunolocalization data suggest a role in pre-mRNA processing. Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants encoding different proteins. A pseudogene of this gene is also located on chromosome 12 (RefSeq, Sep 2010).
