Background
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the highly conserved cyclin family, characterized by dramatic periodicity in protein abundance throughout the cell cycle. Cyclins function as regulators of CDK kinases. Cyclin E2 forms a complex with CDK2 and interacts with CIP/KIP family inhibitors, playing a key role in the G1/S transition. Expression peaks at the G1-S phase and shows tissue-specific patterns distinct from Cyclin E1. Elevated expression levels are often observed in tumor-derived cells.
