Background
This gene encodes a protein associated with the peptidase family C19 (family 2 of ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal hydrolases). Members of this family function as deubiquitinating enzymes, recognizing and hydrolyzing the peptide bond at the C-terminal glycine of ubiquitin. They are involved in processing poly-ubiquitin precursors and ubiquitinated proteins. Alternate transcriptional splice variants encoding different isoforms have been characterized.
