Target Information
Calcium Channel gamma-3 (CACNG3) is a member of voltage-dependent calcium channels (VDCCs) enabling neurons to modulate calcium signaling in specific cellular regions. While N-Type VDCCs are expressed before birth, most subunits are postnatal and play a key role in synaptic transmission in hippocampal regions. CACNG3 functions as a type I transmembrane AMPA receptor regulatory protein (TARP), regulating AMPA receptor trafficking and gating. It belongs to an eight-member subfamily within the PMP-22/EMP/MP20 family. Dysfunction of the CACNG3 gene is associated with childhood absence epilepsy.
