Target Information
ZFPM1 is a transcription regulator involved in erythroid and megakaryocytic cell differentiation. It acts as an essential cofactor forming heterodimers with GATA family transcription factors (GATA1, GATA2, GATA3). These complexes can either activate or repress transcription depending on the cellular context.
The heterodimer is essential for activating genes such as NFE2, ITGA2B, and globin genes, while repressing KLF1 expression. ZFPM1 may also regulate genes in gonads and contribute to cardiac development alongside ZFPM2/FOG2.
