Background
This gene encodes a protein that is a member of the seven in absentia homolog (SIAH) family. The protein functions as an E3 ligase, mediating ubiquitination and proteasome-dependent degradation of specific proteins. Its activity has been linked to Parkinson’s disease development, regulation of hypoxia response, and induction of apoptosis. Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants, some encoding different isoforms and others not fully characterized.
