Target Information

Endostatin evokes non-uniform responses in endothelial cell proliferation, adhesion, and migration depending on cell type. It inhibits angiogenesis and tumor growth in vivo by inducing apoptosis in endothelial cells. Local delivery of endostatin reduces vessel density, diameter, and functionality, specifically affecting tumor-associated microvessels. Tumor cell migration and invasion are greatly reduced in endostatin-treated models. Endostatin is non-toxic, does not induce acquired drug resistance, and is considered a promising therapeutic strategy for solid tumors such as gliomas. Its inhibition of neoangiogenesis is mediated in part by Zn²⁺ binding and elastase processing. Widespread endostatin expression occurs in elastic fibers of vessel walls and basement membranes, and it can accumulate in amyloid plaques in Alzheimer’s disease.
