Target Information
Phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K, phospho PI3K) binds to activated (phosphorylated) protein-Tyr kinases via its SH2 domain and acts as an adapter, mediating association of the p110 catalytic unit to the plasma membrane. It is essential for insulin-stimulated glucose uptake and glycogen synthesis in insulin-sensitive tissues. Upon insulin stimulation, PI3K also binds to IRS-1. Growth factors and hormones trigger phosphorylation, coordinating cell growth, cycle entry, migration, and survival.
