Target Information
The COL gene family (collagens) includes multiple chain types such as fibril-forming interstitial collagens (types I, II, III, and V) and basement membrane collagens (type IV), each with multiple isoforms. Collagens are fibrous extracellular matrix proteins with high tensile strength and are major components of connective tissues like tendons and cartilage. They contain a triple helix domain and often form complex connective structures through lateral self-association. Several collagens are also involved in cell adhesion, maintaining normal tissue architecture and function.
