Length: 370 amino acids
p47 localizes to the nucleus and Golgi apparatus (specifically Golgi stacks) and contains one SEP domain and one UBX domain. It functions as part of a ternary complex with VCP and Syntaxin 5, regulating ATPase activity and Golgi stack fragmentation and reassembly during mitosis. Phosphorylation during mitosis inhibits p47-Golgi interaction, ensuring proper Golgi stack formation and cisternal regrowth. Human p47 shares 89% sequence identity with mouse homologs, indicating a conserved function. Multiple isoforms exist due to alternative splicing.
